It’s 2022 and we are feeling the pressure of return to life after a pandemic. Our lives for the last two years seemed to be a cliff hanger. Our business was forced to shut down for 3 months during the Covid 19 pandemic, people we knew no longer wanted to hang out because of vaccination status, everything seemed to be strange. Except during those 3 months that we were forced to shut down Jenna the kids and I found so much joy spending time together. Then life moved on the world opened back up and so did we with an increase in clients and a boom in the economy. Largely thank you to the Federal Government giving money out like candy. None the less we had clients who wanted a service and we were happy to oblige. We even found a new location for the business during 2020 and purchased the property to operate out of. We had it all, good kids, thriving business and no end in sight. But our hearts were not content. We wanted to experience life with our kids. So we sold it all and bought an RV to travel the United States of America. Yay!!
Our family has always loved traveling and would often take the school breaks (summer, spring, fall and winter) to travel. We would take multi-week trips camping and just enjoying our time. This time always seemed to give us the boost we needed to make it back to work with energy and a renewed focus. During these trips we would often dream about taking a year or half a year to travel and just relax at various places we found interesting. So we started planning. Jenna and I would talk about places we wanted to go, sights we wanted the kids to see and experiences we wanted to feel.
Well fast forward to May of 2022 and within one week we went from tent camping across the U.S. to RVing in a 2022 Mercedes Coachmen Prism 24CBS. We looked and looked for about a week (like we normally do), we test drove some used RV’s which priced out about $6,000 less then a new one. I found the new 7.3 Ford F350 with a Coachman on it but found it drove like a boat and averaged an amazing 8.5 mpg on the test drive. Finally we found the RV we wanted at Lazy Days RV in Mesa, Arizona. We finalized our purchase on Saturday May 14th for a May 19th departure. We outfitted the rig with all our original camping gear minus the tent and ordered a new bike rack that would hold all 5 of our bicycles. I will do a post about the rack later because it is warranted, as it is amazing!
We allowed the kids to finalize some of their school projects and took off about 4 days before the end of the school year. (Sorry teachers) The beginning planning was easy because we booked a 5 night stay at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground about 3 months prior. This gave us a hard deadline to get across Texas and make it to Orlando, Florida in 4 days. We really only planed up to our stay at Disney’s Fort Wilderness at the time of departure. With that in mind we set off for Florida with planned stops in Las Cruses, New Mexico, Kerrville Texas, Lafayette Louisiana and Gulf Shores Alabama. All of which we stayed at KOA’s except for Kerrville where we linked up with some friends from Jenna’s youth.
The new RV has been running well up until that moment when I ran out of fuel. Yep first time ever in my life. We were only about 8 miles from the Kerrville Texas where our friends came out to save the day!
Our hope is that you or someone you know wants to follow along on our family trip to help inspire others to take on adventure and spend the time with your kiddos. Hope to see you all commenting and reading/watching along.
